John L. Scott, the founder of John L. Scott Real Estate, was born near Glasgow, Scotland in 1898. In 1923 he set out upon on a two year journey that saw him immigrate to the United States, eventually settling in Seattle in 1925. Soon after his arrival, John L. Scott began working as a sales associate in a local real estate office and then in 1931, established his own real estate company, building a successful business on his integrity and ambition to provide the highest quality customer service.

Three generations later, John L. Scott's strong heritage continues through his grandson and current Chairman and CEO, J. Lennox Scott. What started with one office over seventy years ago has grown to become one of the largest independent residential real estate companies in the United States, with over 4,000 sales associates in more than 145 offices throughout Washington, Oregon and Idaho.

Today, John L. Scott Real Estate upholds the values and principles established by Lennox's grandfather more than seven decades ago, maintaining the highest standard of professional service in residential home sales. I originally joined a Century 21 office in 1990 in Bend Oregon, and again affiliated with another Century 21 office in Bloomington Indiana for a year in 1993. When I returned to Bend in 1994 I rejoined the local Century 21 office, which was purchased in late 2000 by Windermere. A few months later I moved to The Professional Realty Group, a locally owned, independent office.

On September 12, 2002 The Professional Realty Group of Bend, Oregon was purchased by RE/MAX Equity Group, Inc., a Corporate owned company based in Portland, Oregon. The 50 former Professional Realty Group agents moved to a larger, new hi-tech building in The Old Mill District of Bend, to improve service and accommodate anticipated growth. Former owners Helen and Scott Halligan continued to lead the office.

Growth continued when RE/MAX Manzanita Properties of Bend, merged with RE/MAX Equity Group January 1, 2003. The Bend office became the largest in Bend and Central Oregon.

As of November 1, 2008 RE/MAX Equity Group closed the Bend office, and the John L. Scott real estate office of Bend invited all the realtors, the managing brokers and the support staff of RE/MAX Equity Group to join and merge with their office. By merging forces, we have become the largest office in Bend at 75 agents. There is a commitment from both groups to take the best of both companies and to build a company that will serve our clients more effectively than ever before.
